Club Service

Club Service
includes the scope of activities that Rotarians undertake in support of their club, such as serving on committees, proposing individuals for membership, and meeting attendance requirements.

Some of examples of the Rotary Club of Attleboro's Commitment to  Club Service:

Club Officers and Directors:

No club would be able to function without the dedication and hard work of it's officers and directors.  All of these positions are volunteer positions and are not compensated monetarily. Following are some of the positions in our club:

President: This individual is the chief executive of our club.  The president is responsible for running the weekly meetings, the monthly Board of Directors meetings, interacts with our Rotary District leadership and Rotary International.  The President is required to have served for a year each  as Vice President and President Elect prior to assuming the responsibilities of President.

President-Elect: The President-Elect is the number two slot in the club's leadership and will become club President at the end of the current President's term.  The President-Elect fills in for the President if the President cannot attend a weekly meeting, and the the President Elect is responsible for coordinating Club Service events throughout the year.

Vice President: The Vice President is the individual who has been selected to serve as Club President after completing a year as Vice President and another as President-Elect.  The primary responsibility of the Vice President is to manage the annual club auction, which is the club's primary fundraiser.

Secretary: This club Secretary is responsible for maintaining the smooth administrative operation of the club.  Responsibilities include advising the president and maintaining the proper records on such issues as membership, attendance, billing, board meeting minutes, ect.  Unlike most of the officer positions, the Secretary position is generally held for more than one year.

Treasurer: Another critical position in the leadership of the club is the Treasurers position.  The Treasurer is responsible for maintaining the financial records of the club, and advising the President and the Board of Directors on all financial matters.  Like the Secretary position, the Treasurer typically serves for more than one year.

Bulletin Editor: The Bulletin Editor writes and is responsible for publishing the newsletter which goes out to each of our members each week.  The Bulletin Editor maintains the club and community calendar, reports on club activities, events, attendance and provides a synopsis of the weekly Speaker's presentation.

Sergeant at Arms: The Sergeant at Arms is responsible for taking member attendance at each meeting, collecting luncheon fees from visiting Rotarians and guests and for running the weekly "Roto" 50/50 fundraiser.

Program Chair: The Program Chair is responsible for obtaining high quality speakers for our weekly luncheons.  The Program Chair ensures that all of the speaker's logistical requirements are met (Audio/Video/Projectors, ect. and that the Speaker has directions and shows up on time) and usually introduces the speaker to the club.

Committee Positions: Each of the 4 Avenues of Service (Club, Community, International, Vocational) has a committee chairperson who coordinates the activities related to that category. These Chairpersons are members of the Board of Directors.  Additional Ad Hoc committees also exist within the club and may be chaired by a Board member or a member volunteer.

 Club Events

Following are a sample of some of the events which fall under the "Club Service" category:
  • Charter Night - Each Spring, the Attleboro club celebrates the founding of it's original charter in 1935.  At this annual dinner event, the club presents two club members with Paul Harris Fellow awards for outstanding service to the club and community.  The Paul Harris Fellow is the highest award the Attleboro Rotary Club bestows on its members.
  • Installation Night - In July, the Attleboro club celebrates the annual installation ceremony for it's new officers and directors, and recognizes the outgoing officers and directors.
  • Holiday Party - Every December the club holds an evening holiday party, complete with entertainment and holiday cheer.

  • Fireside Chat - Fireside Chats are held periodically throughout the year in order to welcome new members and their spouses to the club.  The chats include club officers, directors, and any club members who wish to attend and welcome the new members.  The chats are intended to introduce the members to the officers and directors and to share the goals of the club and communicate the responsibilities to each new member.

  • Family Day -  Family picnic type events are typically held on an annual basis and occasionally these events are even held at a Pawtucket Red Sox game.

  • Sports - The club has fielded a softball team which plays recreational games against other local Rotary clubs, service organizations and other local softball teams.  Rotarians also participate in Rotary District 7950 Golf League and several other Rotary related and sponsored Golf tournaments.
